10 Items NOT to Stockpile in MoP
Over the last month I’ve been writing posts after post about gold making and focus mostly on what’s to come. What you should stockpile, what items are going to net you the most profit once Mist of Pandaria hits. The idea behind how to stockpile, what is best items, how it’s all base off the idea of buying low and selling normal.
Now I’m aware there are many of my readers who have disagreed with me, some even down right said I don’t understand the market or that I’m an idiot more or less. I understand that some people just have their way of thinking and there is not changing it.
Which is what makes gold making so fun, that what you believe works, works for you and for me this is what works. In the end, YOU need to find the balance for yourself. That is how the game works and the difference between reaching gold cap and not.
Top 10 Items not to Stockpile
- Cataclysm 81-84 Greens and Blues
- Chimera’s Eye
- Infinite Dust & Greater Cosmic Essence
- Eternal Fire/Shadow/Water/Air/Earth/Life
Maelstrom Crystals(Update)- Enchanting Rod Mats
- Wrath/Cataclysm Cut/Raw Gem
- Glyphs (Only the Burned Glyphs)
- 85 Epic BoE Gear (other than for Transmogrification)
- Crafted Pets
Some of you are going to read this list and just know why half of these items will not ever be a good idea for stockpiling. But in case you’re scratching your head and wonder why.. keep reading.
Cataclysm 81-84 Greens and Blues: There will be new Level 81 to 84 Greens that will be ilvl 364. However because there is only 5 levels this time and not a 10 level cap I believe it will only be level 83 to 85 greens that will be far better than most Cataclysm epics.
Chimera’s Eye: Unlike in wrath where the Jewelcrafting only Gem Dragon’s Eye had crafting use beyond the Profession Perk, you could use Dragon’s Eyes for Nightmare Tears. The Chimera’s Eye has no such use beyond some rings and necks that will be worthless.
Infinite Dust & Greater Cosmic Essence: You may think, well if it’s cheap why not? Well because you can get MORE of them and cheaper by stocking Abyss Crystal and shattering them.
Eternal Fire/Shadow/Water/Air/Earth/Life: These can be traded for Frozen Orb’s which is 1 for 1 trade. But check the prices; most of the time Frozen Orb’s are lower than the Eternals.
Maelstrom Crystals: Unlike Abyss Crystal they only shatter into 2 Heavenly Shard’s and there are only a few patterns you buy with them too. There is a vendor outside of Firelands you can buy epics and DE for them.
Enchanting Rod Mats: They removed all Enchanting Rods but Copper Rod’s from the game. Any mat that is needed to make Gold Rod and up are going to lose value due to the rods being removed.
Wrath/Cataclysm Cut/Raw Gem: The only items I’m not 100% sure on. So far I haven’t been able to find if there are ilvl requirements for Mist of Pandaria gem yet. If there is no ilvl requirement, the gem market as we know it today will crash. This itself calls for another post to explain in detail why.
Glyphs: There is a list right now that shows every glyph and what it’s being turn into. Meaning you could craft now and they will turn into the new ones. However there are a few that are just going away and will turn into a Faded Glyph.
85 Epic BoE Gear: There will be 85 level Mist greens that will have better stats than all current Epics. So basically they will become DE trash or maybe some might find some value in Transmogrification.
Crafted Pets: The changes to the Pet Battle System has made even me worry about what pets to stockpile. Don’t stockup on the crafted pets as they are too easy to make. Some gold makers have posted up saying DO NOT STOCK ANY PETS. However I think this is wrong to do. Remember some people don’t collect pets but they might in Mist because they’ll now have a use to the game.

I’m not sure I’m entirely with you on crafted pets. I agree that I wouldn’t necessarily stockpile them, but I don’t know that they’ll go down in value. Just to touch on a couple of your arguments:
- Crafted pets are too easy to make: This one’s a bit subjective. Which pets, and compared to what? I would argue some of the engineering pets are some of the most annoying items to craft in the game.
- People aren’t going to be interested in non-rare pets: I realize you didn’t say that here, but you did express that sentiment in your reply over at Farli’s blog. While I agree that some people might have the “rare or GTFO” attitude, I don’t think that’ll be the whole story by any means.
For one thing, the same people that have always bought these pets will probably continue to do so, because they’re distinctive and cute, and not necessarily care that much about battling them.
Second, it’s not a perfect comparison, but look at Pokemon. Yes, there are the people who min/max everything and have the perfect team, but there are plenty more that just battle with a team they like to look at.. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have some of these same people in WoW pet battles.
Basically, I don’t see the sky falling on pets the way some people think. Though, as you mentioned on Farli’s blog, you can always save the raw mats on some of the pets. Old-school mats should see a rather large spike in demand as people start leveling their pandas.
(Also, I apologize in advance if this eats my paragraph breaks like last time.)

The paragraph breaks is a CSS issue not an issue with how you’ve written your post and I’m working on fixing that issue.
About crafting pets, this was another one of those subjects on the list that I wasn’t sure about because the information we simply don’t know about. As such I found it would just be better for me to write a post just about the pets itself.
Personally I played the Pokemon Handheld games the moment they came out in 1994 all the way to about 2 years ago, I loved them and it was something to do while I waited for the bus. So I feel like I know how this market is going to play out, I know how people will react and what people will want. I mean I use to go to tournaments and talked with people of all ages, what they thought, how they reacted to changes, etc. I traded with them, I had fun playing the game with them. I find it funny that all that I gain playing a game as silly as pokemon is helping me understand a market that has yet to come in WoW.
