Black Market Auction: Account Wide Gold Theory
First off let me start by saying that this is just a theory of what Blizzard might do with the gold cap when it comes to gold in Mist of Pandaria. There is no information out there or even any hint that we could get account wide gold at all. I got this idea base on Blizzard really pushing the bring the player not the class more so now with account wide content. The biggest impact to me would be the up coming Black Market Auction House and the gold cap itself. So please this is just a theory of what could happen but we would have to wait and see.
With Pets, Mounts and Achievements being account wide now; simply put if you earn something on your main, your alts and any and all new characters you make will now have the same. I have a theory; will this mean we’ll have our gold, maybe even Honor or Justice points be account wide too? There are a few good reasons to do this, but also bad, the impact it could have on cross server or cross faction could be huge.
Black Market Auction
The new Black Market Auction house is pretty simple; An NPC puts up an item for a bid (no buyout) for I believe it’ll be 48 hours. You as a play can bid on those items. The highest bidder wins. The items that we are aware that will be up will be so far gear, TCG items, items removed from game (mostly gear it looks like), pets and mounts. The items are rare to get items or in some cases like the Naxx 40man Tier 3 gear that became no longer available to players after Wrath of the Lich King.
What would happen if say Player A and Player B want item C. Both players have a million gold, what happens if someone bids the gold cap? Lets say Player B bids 500k on item C, than player A comes along and bid a million. Well given the nature of how a bid system works, Player B would have no chance to win the item unless they could bid over what Player A bid. This is where the problem comes in
Given the current system there is no way to really fix this, yes that person would no longer be gold cap, on that character. I haven’t been able to get to the Black Market in Beta yet and from what I understand it’s not active yet (unless that was change in the latest beta build) so there is no way to see what the current system of bidding works yet. But does that mean the system is going to be broken?
The Solution
That would simply mean who ever bids a million first wins it hands down. I had two theories about this; first Blizzard could raising the gold cap to something crazy, lets say for sake of example 10 million gold. It’s kind of doubtful that someone would reach that on one character let alone on multiples.
I’m not sure if anyone has reached total gold cap as of Cataclysm but even still I really don’t think your normal player would ever be able to reach that amount of gold.
Account wide gold – Having all your gold access on any character on any WoW Account. This could be a game breaker and really affect servers. First off, it would fix the issue of the Black Market having a cap on how much you could bid. They could set the account wide limit to something crazy like 20 million meaning the number of people who could reach it would.
The bad? Well it would affect servers both fractions. You can make all your gold on one side and then login to the other side and now you have that gold with out trading it using the current way of doing it. You could make a new character on another server and now you have gold there too. It could be bad, but it would make things easier too. Why should I start over on a new server? The idea of the account wide content right now is so you don’t feel force to grind that content again. So why not gold too? We’ll have to wait and see what Blizzard does with that.
I guess the bigger question is how many people would really give away all their gold for just one item? Do you think Tier 3 is worth that much? Given the fact that once you spend that gold it’s gone, it’s taken out of the system and doesn’t go to another player like the normal Auction House works. So this is something to think about. What do you think? Do you think having account wise gold is a good idea or not?
